Memorial – Alex Prosser

Sadly, Alex Prosser, a long-time and active member of Central, has died and we extend our most sincere sympathies to his wife Kathleen and their family.  Alex and Kathleen served many years on our Brookfield Pastoral Care Committee with Alex also serving as Chair of that committee.

Visitation will be at Chapel Ridge on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. with the funeral service at Central United on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a reception in our downstairs hall.

If anyone can assist the ladies with the reception, kindly contact Marjorie Wetmore at mlwetmore@rogers.com

The obituary, as published in the Toronto Star today, is provided below:

This Sunday we celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism so we do hope many of you can join us for this special service of worship.

And of course Saturday is our annual Prime Rib Beef Dinner.  We thank all of you for your support:  buying tickets, cooking a roast, providing a dessert, and volunteering during the day of the event.  Many hands make light work!  Jim Wright is still looking for a few more helpers for the second shift on Saturday evening, so if you can lend a hand – please contact him at jamescwright56@gmail.com

For those coming to help out at the church on Saturday morning, please note that there is a “run” in Unionville from 6 to 11 a.m.  Carlton Road will be closed from Main Street to Pomander Road and there will be limited access to other area streets south and west of that area:  Carlton west to Webber Crescent, Main Street from Fred Varley to Carlton, Webber Crescent, Village Parkway from Webber to Krieghoff, Krieghoff Avenue, Fonthill Boulevard and Fred Varley Drive from Fonthill to Main.  Please plan your route accordingly.

Spring is finally here and we trust many of you have been enjoying the sunshine! Here are your weekly announcements – happy reading!

A couple of highlights:

1. Be sure to join us this Sunday for a special treat. Megan Murphy Ratnam will be our guest speaker and we look forward to hearing of her mission work in the Dominican Republic. Megan is an ordained minister who grew up at Central United Church.

2. Our annual beef dinner is fast approaching and I do hope many of you will be attending, along with your family and friends. Remember, everyone who joins us for dinner requires a ticket and we do ask that they be purchased in advance to help us with planning. Volunteers are still needed to cook roasts, provide desserts, peel vegetables and help with kitchen clean up. (Just send me a quick email and I’d be happy to “sign you up”!)

Here are your weekly church announcements – happy reading! Two things of note:

Service for Gerri
Saturday (April 11th) is the Celebration of Life service for Gerri Seeley in our sanctuary at 2 p.m. This is expected to be a well-attended service so we are asking that those who are able to park offsite. This will free up our lot for visitors and family. The Bethesda Lutheran Church has graciously offered their parking lot and street parking will be available – just be sure to be aware of the parking bylaws and signage. Please carpool if possible.

Following the service, the Seeley family have invited everyone to a reception at Angus Glen Golf Course (on Kennedy Road just north of Major Mackenzie Drive).

Beef Dinner
Please note that our beef dinner is coming up soon! If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, please be sure to see Don Thomson on Sunday or get them from me during the week. This is a major fundraiser for your church and we do so much appreciate your support of this event.
