Memorial – Rudi Hoevelmann

Sadly, church member Rudi Hoevelmann passed away yesterday and, on behalf of our church family, we extend our very sincere sympathies to his wife Dale and family. Details are contained in the obituary below.

Rudolf (Rudi) Hoevelmann January 8, 1940 – October 18, 2015

Cancer has finally conquered a strong, kind and generous husband, father, grandfather, friend and employer. Rudi passed away in the presence of his family at Markham Stouffville Hospital. He is greatly missed by his devoted wife of 51 years, Dale (nee Holdsworth), his loving daughter Donna, and cherished granddaughters, Mara and Emily. Predeceased by his sister, Ingrid Balzer, of Germany. He will be remembered affectionately by family and friends in Canada and in Germany. Everyone who knew him loved him for his caring and giving spirit and his sense of humour. Visitation will be held at the DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME, 166 Main Street N. (Markham Road), Markham on Friday, October 23 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service to take place at Central United Church, 131 Main Street, Unionville, on Saturday, October 24 at 3 p.m. Reception to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.dixongarland.com.

Say not in grief, “He is no more” but live in thankfulness that he was.

  1. Next Sunday, October 25th will include two special events in celebration of our 175th Anniversary as a congregation.  At the 10:00 a.m. worship service we will have a special guest preacher:  Rev. Dr. Andrew Stirling, minister at Timothy Eaton Memorial and then, in the evening, we will host a concert with the Ontario Presbyterian Chorus directed by our own Alastair McCallum.   Former ministers of Central have been invited to join us on this special day and I hope many of you can too.

This Sunday is Worldwide Communion Sunday and we will also reintroduce our Sunday morning coffee hour.  I do hope many of you can stay following worship for this special time of fellowship and refreshments.

Also, a couple of important reminders:

  1. Service Time Survey – be sure to save us the “follow up” and let us know by this Sunday your preference for weekly service time – 10 or 10:30 p.m.
  1. Road Closure – Main Street Unionville is closed at the “Planing Mill” just north of Station Lane (the railway tracks) for a culvert replacement until the end of October.  Consequently, the church is only accessible from the south – i.e. Hwy. 7  so many of you will need to adjust your route.
