A few reminders for Oct. 14-20, 2024

GUEST MINISTER

Oct. 27, 2024

Our Guest Minister this Sunday will be Rev. Dr. Bill Norman, who retired in 2015 following 41 years of pastoral ministry with Baptist churches in Ontario. He was pastor at Markham Baptist Church from 1991 to 2000 and he and his wife Christine continue to live in Markham. They have four adult children and seven grandchildren and now share their home with a wire-haired dachshund named Peanut.

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.

Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.

Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Jeremiah 31:7-9, Hebrews 7:1-28 and Mark 10:46-52. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

SEPTEMBER YTD FINANCE COMMITTEE UPDATE

You might think you have read this before – the news is similar to last month:

  • September offerings were $500 below our Budget of $18,000.

  • September YTD offerings are $12,000 below Budget and $2,000 below this time last year.

  • YTD Operating Expenses continue to be well managed – $41,300 under Budget. We have benefited from lower salaries with Pastor Jim’s June retirement and Pastor Lori’s November start.

  • Some Capital enhancements underway include new sanctuary lighting and Stoop refresh (together more than $30,000).

As a result of the YTD Deficit of $74,100 the Church has needed to draw down $55,000 from our cash reserves (investments). This trend will continue and grow through year-end based on current forecasts, which is not sustainable.

We have taken good steps in maintaining/enhancing our facilities and programs this year. To keep this up, you are encouraged to review your year-to-date donation history and support the closing of our Budget Gap.

Bottom-line, $90,000 in offerings are required in 4Q to achieve our 2024 Offering Budget of $253,000.

Please contact Lindsay Duffield or Scott Wetmore if you have any questions.

OCTOBER FOOD DRIVE

“Help Families in Need”

We are organizing a Food Drive this October to put smiles on the faces of some needy families.

Food donations (non-perishable only) can be dropped off at the church for the entire month of October.

Every little donation helps and is greatly appreciated. All items collected will be donated to our local food bank. Thank you all for your support and for giving to those in need!

SAMARITAN’S PURSE – Christmas Shoebox

Our Samaritan’s Purse initiative, one of our Christmas Outreach events is in full swing. You can participate by packaging a shoebox yourself or if you’d prefer Samaritan’s Purse to pack a box for you, you can do so with a $44.00 donation, just visit their website here. They also ask for a $12.00 donation per box which is applied towards collection, processing and international shipping.

The initiative runs for six weeks, ending on Sunday, November 17th. Shoeboxes, brochures and shopping lists are now available for pick up Sundays after church service or during the week. The church office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.

Let’s support this great initiative again this year to bring joy to a needy child. What a wonderful way to share Jesus’ love.
