A few reminders for this week Apr. 15 to Apr. 21, 2024

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us. (1 John 3:16) Generally speaking, there is something lovely and delightful about being pursued by someone. It has a way of building esteem—making us feel valued. And it isn’t just romantic pursuit that brings delight. When someone calls us to offer a job or join a sports team or sing in a choir or be part of a worthwhile endeavour, we feel valued. To ask someone personally to join the work of a church committee fosters commitment more readily than the most entertaining general appeals. Why? Because there is something inspiring in the experience that someone else took the time to ask me. What joy it is to know that our Lord thought enough of you and me to pursue us…even to the point of laying down His life for us.

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.

Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.

Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Acts 4:5-12, 1 John 3:16-24 and John 10:11-18. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

FINANCE AND STEWARDSHIP

COMMITTEE UPDATE

Through March 31st, Central United Church experienced a ($24,700) deficit versus a budgeted ($17,000) deficit, or ($7700) worse than planned.

This shortfall is primarily due to a $12,000 shortfall in offerings in the first quarter. Operating expenses are for the most part on or below budget. We continue to invest in our Strategic Plan initiatives and have freed up cash from Investments to ensure adequate cash reserves for 2024. Don’t worry – the lights will stay on!

Our Offerings budget for 2024 is 6% more than 2023, and we encourage everyone to look at their YTD givings and continue to support Central United Church with your Time, Talents and Financial Support.

Giving is easy via automatic monthly donations (PAR); Interac e-transfers, Canada Helps or Cheque/Cash. Details are on our website, on the pew cards and via the QR code displayed on the sanctuary screen before Service or on signs in the Narthax. Contact Sally_Sandiford@hotmail.com to sign up for PAR.

Thanks for your continuing support of Central United Church as “We grow in Christ and help others grow with us.”

SECURITY UPDATES FOR

CENTRAL UNITED CHURCH

Thanks to a $20,000 grant from the Provincial Government, we were recently able to update our facility security. This included replacing key access on most doors with electronic entry cards; adding three cameras to cover the driveway, parking lot and play ground; and adding a camera intercom on the front door.

This project makes our facility safer for all. Thanks to our A&P Committee for managing and to Alan Heighway for his technical expertise and installation oversight.

LEMONADE ON THE LAWN

Summer is coming and we would like to reintroduce Lemonade on the Lawn for the Sundays late May through to the end of August this year.

However, the only way this can happen is if you, our congregation supports this by signing up for the weeks you are able to assist with set up, pouring and clean up each week. This is a very easy task as all supplies will be available at the church. Sign up sheets are located on the bulletin board outside the Friendship room in the Narthex. Our outdoor fellowship after our service can ONLY happen if we have our full three months covered by volunteers. Please consider this, so that we can all enjoy the physical reconnection with old and new friends in our church.

Please check your calendars and commit to a week or two that will work for you! If you have any questions you may contact Kathy Hoy by email at kathyhoy5@gmail.com. Your service to the church will be appreciated by all!
