FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
“I am the good shepherd,” said Jesus, “The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” In the larger context of this saying of Jesus, you could understand the word translated ‘good’ as ‘genuine’ or ‘true,’ a meaning the word also connotes. I am the genuine or true shepherd. Jesus had just used a figure of speech with regard to himself that comes from the first-century world of shepherding. ‘The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep; the one who climbs in another way is a thief or bandit.’ The point Jesus emphasises is that the true shepherd of the sheep is the one with the well-being of the sheep as top-priority. You know the true Shepherd because he is the One who lays down his life for us.
CENTRAL UNITED IN-PERSON WORSHIP SUSPENDED
Under the current York Region lockdown due to Covid-19, Central United Church is continuing it’s livestreaming of Sunday Services, but in-person worship services are on hold until the end of lockdown. We will keep you posted as to when in-person services will resume.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we endeavor to work together to make our worship both safe and meaningful during this unusual time.
PARKING LOT AND DRIVEWAY PROJECT
As approved at the Annual General Meeting in February we will be replacing the parking lot and driveway this summer. The total cost is expected to be between $80,000 and $85,000. Special donations to the Parking Lot Project are welcomed and donations received directly for the project will help to preserve our other funds. We appreciate that over $1,500 has already been donated.
