A few reminders for this week Dec. 12 to Dec. 18, 2022

… you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21) Perhaps, like me, you have been asking the question, ‘what do you want for Christmas?’ We want to give a gift that will delight the recipient. In the story the Bible tells of Christmas, God doesn’t ask us what we want for Christmas. If God did ask what would we say? And if we listed all the things we wanted would ‘someone to save us from our sin” be on our list? No, God doesn’t ask what we want. God gives us what he knows we truly need. A Saviour. This doesn’t mean that God is uninterested in those other things on our list, rather, in the Saviour God gives us everything else.

Reminder of Survey for CUC Strategic Plan

Deadline: Sunday, December 18

To those of you who have responded to the request for input through the survey whether on-line or in hardcopy we offer a sincere Thank You!

For those who have not responded to the on-line survey or not returned a hard copy response to the church office, please do so as soon as possible.

CUC’s Strategic Planning Committee requires your input on some important questions. We believe that you can provide us with some valuable insight that will shape the future of our Church.

The following link will take you to a Members and Attendee’s Survey that we ask you to complete. We thank you for taking the time to complete the survey and for the insight you will provide us, as we develop CUC’s Strategic Plan.

For those who prefer working with a hard copy, please either pick up a printed survey in the church lobby or contact the church office for a survey to be mailed to you.

Central United Church welcomes you to our Worship Service Sunday morning at 10:00 am and we would love to have you join us. We rejoice that we can worship together and give thanks, offering prayer and lifting our voices in song.

Sunday services will also still be available to watch via livestreaming at 10:00 am through the Church website. To watch live or view a recording later, go to the Church website, scroll down and click on Central United’s Live Stream Page or click here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Isaiah 7:10-16, Romans 1:1-7 and Matthew 1:18-25. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

We would like to remind everyone about our upcoming Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Services. We will celebrate with two Christmas Eve services at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m; come and enjoy carols, choir and the reading of the story of the birth of our Saviour.  The Christmas Day service will take place at 10:00 am. At all services we will share in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Through October 2022, the Church had an operating deficit (expenses > income) of -$22,623. While this is slightly better than originally budgeted, we now have some unplanned expenditures regarding the Strategic Planning project, which will increase this deficit.

Central United strives for a “balanced budget”. We encourage you to look at your givings to date and consider any additional donations by year-end. December is always a big month for donations and we hope even better in our first “Post Covid” Christmas season, with many more people attending services in-person.

If you would like an up to date balance of your YTD givings, please contact Sharlene in the church office who will put you in contact with the envelope secretary.

Thank you for your generous support.
