FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
And Jesus was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. (Mark 9:2-4) Features of the story of Jesus’ transfiguration pushes the boundaries of credulity for many people. Peter’s suggestion of building 3 dwellings—one each for Elijah, Moses, and Jesus—indicates that he did not regard Elijah and Moses as merely figures in a vision. The story the Bible tells asserts that there is much more to this world than that which the eyes can see. The scriptures insist that the world we inhabit is part of a reality that is much deeper than that which our physical senses can detect. Every prayer we offer is an action of inhabiting this deeper reality.
