FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.’ (Mark 1:14-15) I had a conversation recently with a man who told me that he was an agnostic. At one point in the conversation he said that he thought that we humans were made to believe. I think he is correct about the nature of us humans. What we believe profoundly shaped our lives. G. K. Chesterton said, “When people choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.” Jesus also assumes the human capacity to believe: at the heart of Jesus’ preaching was this call to believe in the good news of God.
SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.
Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.
Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.
This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Genesis 1:1-5, Acts 19:1-7 and Mark 1:4-11. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.
PASTORAL SEARCH
As reported last Sunday, Rev. Jim has officially notified us of his retirement, with an effective date of June 30, 2024.
It is now time to initiate the process of the search for Central’s next Senior Minister of Worship and Pastoral Care. The first step in the process is the identification of the members of the Pastoral Search Committee. Your Council has asked Doug Stirling to lead the process of identifying candidates for this committee. There will be an announcement on the process this coming Sunday. Please begin to prayerfully consider how you can support or participate in this work that is vital for the future of our congregation.
