A few reminders for this week Jan. 23 to Jan. 29, 2023

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

Jesus said, ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’ Do you not find Jesus’ proclamation a bold assertion? Whatever you are facing in life—human neediness of whatever kind—you will find blessing in the kingdom of heaven, here and now. Perhaps you have had your hopes dashed often enough by the fragility or vagaries of life such that you are hesitant about grand sounding promises. When circumstances whisper or scream the lie that God does not love us we only need to look to the cross and recall Jesus poured himself out without remainder for our sakes. The truth of his kingdom is that it is his steadfast love that endures forever, not our circumstance. The difficult circumstances of life are never that last word about you or me. For the believer, the last word about her is the kingdom word Jesus pronounced, Blessed!!

SUNDAY WORSHIP

Central United Church welcomes you to our Worship Service Sunday morning at 10:00 am and we would love to have you join us. We rejoice that we can worship together and give thanks, offering prayer and lifting our voices in song. This Sunday we will be celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Sunday services are livestreamed at 10:00 am through the Church website. To watch live or view a recording later, go to the Church website, scroll down and click on Central United’s Live Stream Page or click here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Micah 6:1-8, 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 and Matthew 5:1-12. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

FROM YOUR STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE

This Sunday, Dr. Ken Burton, our Strategic Planning consultant, will bring an update of where we are with the development of Central United Church’s Strategic Plan directly following our service. If you are able, please stay to hear his report. This will be a brief but important meeting.

COLLECTION COUNTERS /

BANK DEPOSITORS NEEDED

We urgently need a number of new volunteers (4 would be ideal) to count the collection received each Sunday and make the bank deposits afterwards at the local CIBC bank on Highway 7. This is something that could be done right after church service. Based on the number of volunteers, we will build a schedule for the year, so it won’t take up too much time for any one individual.

We will be posting a volunteer sign-up sheet in the Narthax. In the meantime, please let Sharlene in the Church Office know of your interest, or you can ask Gary Crosby or Lindsay Duffield with any questions. Thanks for your consideration in taking the opportunity to contribute to the church’s needs.”
