FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
“The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever.” (Psalm 138:8) There are many things we face in life that can cause us to wonder about the Psalmist’s confidence that ‘The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me.’ The Psalmist’s confidence is rooted in the steadfast love of God; God’s love endures and so points us to look to Him. Jesus promised his disciples that he was going to prepare a place for us “so that where I am, there you may be also.” He prepared the way in his self-forgetful self-giving on the cross; the act of God where we see the nature of God’s love most clearly. Our Lord’s purpose is to bring the believer home. Even though the Psalmist is certain of God’s love, the challenges he faced were troubling so he added, “Do not forsake the work of your hands.” We too can pray this part of the prayer and speak honestly with God when blindsided by troubles that shake our confidence. While our confidence can be up and down the love of God is steadfast.
