FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
“Six ways used to erase Sir John A. Macdonald” is the front page headline today in one of Canada’s national newspapers. Are we better than our ancestors? It seems we think so. About the current trend of erasing historical figures professor Ephraim Radner wrote, “Our current attitude to our ancestors seems to grow out of a broad sense that today we know more, indeed, are morally better than yesterday; that today we are different, not just in our attitudes, but in our very selves. … that the present is a morally evolved moment that can evaluate the past from a position of purified and enlightened vision.” A reading of the rest of the newspaper calls into question such confidence in moral evolution. Today’s culture needs to hear what the prophet John the Baptist said of Jesus to his world, ‘Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’

COLLECTION COUNTERS /
BANK DEPOSITORS NEEDED
We urgently need a number of new volunteers (4 would be ideal) to count the collection received each Sunday and make the bank deposits afterwards at the local CIBC bank on Highway 7. This is something that could be done right after church service. Based on the number of volunteers, we will build a schedule for the year, so it won’t take up too much time for any one individual.
We will be posting a volunteer sign-up sheet in the Narthax. In the meantime, please let Sharlene in the Church Office know of your interest, or you can ask Gary Crosby or Lindsay Duffield with any questions. Thanks for your consideration in taking the opportunity to contribute to the church’s needs.”

CHURCH FAMILY NEWS
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas William Patterson on December 20, 2022. Doug was a long standing member of Central United Church. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
Doug was known to be an adventurer in his youth and relished cottage life on Lake Rousseau which he enjoyed with his late wife Elizabeth, his children and grand children. At the request of Doug, there will be no funeral. There will be an internment in Muskoka this summer.
We are grateful for our Saviour’s promise to welcome Doug home with Him. Please remember the members of Doug’s family in your prayers.
