A few reminders for this week July 10 to July 16, 2023

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

… so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11) On Wednesday, May 17, 2023 a 1,100-year-old Hebrew Bible, one of the world’s oldest surviving biblical manuscripts, sold for $38 million at auction in New York. The Codex Sassoon, a leather-bound, handwritten parchment volume containing a nearly complete Hebrew Bible, was purchased and donated to ANU Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv. Do you think the purchaser overpaid for this Bible? Is it possible to overpay for this book? Can you put a price on the word that goes out of the mouth of God that will never return empty but accomplishes that which God purposes and will succeed in the thing for which he sent it? When you pick up a Bible to read you hold a truly priceless treasure in your hand.

SUNDAY WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Isaiah 55:10-13; Romans 8:1-11 and Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE

Below is the pulpit announcement from the July 2nd service by Chair of Council, Mark Ono.

“As your Council Chair, I am pleased to let you know that at a full in person Council meeting last Wednesday, Doug Stirling, chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, along with some of its members, presented to Council the final findings and recommendations of the Strategic Planning Committee. After a detailed discussion of the report, a motion was passed by a unanimous vote of council to accept the report as tabled. They did an excellent job in gathering feedback from many sources, which we will let you know in the coming weeks, and especially from the surveys, interviews, and focus groups from you all. It is Council ‘s intent that we will start to share such information over the coming weeks with a full congregational meeting in September to go through the rationale of the Strategic Planning group and their findings and recommendations.

Let me just say that their direction was guided by you all who expressed a willingness to change and the discernment of God’s will.

Stay tuned.”
