FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
When the Apostle Paul preached the gospel in his first century world he used the imagery of Roman adoption practices as a metaphor for the experience of faith in Jesus Christ; “but you have received a spirit of adoption.” One of the key features of Roman adoption practices was that the adopted child started a new life as part of a new family, with all previous debts and obligations cancelled. I am not sure what metaphor Paul would use today but like this one of adoption it would feature belonging, rootedness, identification. In the gospel people are welcomed into a relationship where the emphasis in not on what you know about yourself, rather it is on the joy of knowing the God who knows you completely. It is the true story on which to found and build a life.
SUNDAY WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.
Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.
Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here. This Sunday we will be celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Isaiah 44:6-8; Romans 8:12-25 and Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.
IMPLEMENTATION PLAN FOR STRATEGIC PLAN
Last Tuesday, July 11, your Council met to start to develop an implementation plan for the Strategic Plan.
The strategic plan documents are now available on our church website.
Go to https://centralunitedchurch.com, then click on ” About us”, then to “Strategic plan 2023-2028.” The Strategic plan power point presentation will appear, and just below slide one, there is a ”button” called “CUC Strategic Plan Executive Summary June 22, 2023”. Click on it to view the executive summary.
We have had success in the past year with hiring “expertise “– assisting the Strategic Planning Committee in developing a 5 year strategic plan and a retired CA and experienced user of PowerChurch – the administrative and accounting package which has been running successfully since January.
The Strategic Planning Committee adopted the mindset of investing in our future with an outward focus. Investment carries an expectation of a return on that investment.
The Strategic Plan has four key resources identified to achieve the goals set out by the Strategic Planning Committee:
1. Start of search for Sunday school teacher/superintendent (paid position) (and contained in this year’s budget according to our Finance chair, Lindsay Duffield.). This position was discussed by council late last year but decided to wait for findings of Strategic Plan.
2. The Council is looking for a congregational champion – a lay leader from the congregation to lead a congregational steering committee to oversee the implementation of the items in the strategic plan.
3. Start search for the Director of Strategic programs (paid position) – lead the various actions recommended in Strategic plan – details to follow.
4. Council is looking for someone with website creation/management skills, or someone with a marketing background that can lead the search in finding an individual or company to redo our CUC website.
There are companies that specialize in church websites and if we can’t find the skills “in-church”, then we need to research and select an outside resource for our needs. We would like to launch a new look website before the year is out.
We will post these positions with details in future weekly bulletins.
