A few reminders for this week July 29, 2024 to August 4, 2024

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

‘What must we do to perform the works of God?’ Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” (John 6:28-29) One of the key themes of the Gospel of John is believing in Jesus. I note that the question put to Jesus was about the works (plural) of God. Jesus’ answer is regarding the work (singular) of God. What we believe in our hearts shapes everything we do in life. Jesus calls us to trust ourselves to him and out of that relationship live our lives. Doing the work of God—believing in Jesus—leads us in performing the works of God in our world.

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP

This Sunday, there will be NO worship service at Central United. Services will resume on Sunday, August 11th.

WEEKLY PRAYER MEETING &

TIME OF FELLOWSHIP

The Thursday 7:00 PM prayer meeting will resume on Thursday, September 5th.

DWELL

Whether you’re new to the Christian faith or simply curious, you are invited to join a study group called DWELL. We begin with worship together in the sanctuary at 10:00 AM. After the message for the children, we meet for 30 minutes in the room outside the sanctuary to dwell in the Word of God. Open to all, trained Bible teachers will lead participants of all ages to familiarize them with the language, culture, and major themes of the Bible. The vision is to support and journey with all who are seeking to know the heart of God, being rooted deeply in the Word of God. All participants will receive a Bible to begin their journey.

PHOTO CONSENT

Over the years, the church has taken many photos of the congregation. As part of our strategic initiatives, we are updating our website. If you prefer not to have your photos appear on our new website, please click here to leave us your name, or send an email to admin@centralunitedchurch.com before September 15, 2024.

AN UPDATE FROM YOUR FRIENDLY

NEIGHBOURHOOD FINANCE COMMITTEE

The first half of 2024 is in the books. There has been an uptick in Donations recently – thank you! We are now $10,000 behind our YTD Offerings budget….so narrowing the gap, but a gap remains. Rental income is slightly below budget as well.

Expenses continue to be managed prudently, with total 1H expenses of $199,000, versus a 1H budget of $212,000 – a savings of $13,000.

We continue to spend to keep the Church running its day-to-day operations, key elements of our strategic plan and planned capital investments to keep our facilities clean and updated.

Bottom-line, YTD June, there is an overall deficit of $33,400 versus a projected deficit of $43,500. So better than expected but still a ways off from our desired Balanced Budget.

Please continue to make, or start making your regular donations, and thank you for your Time, Talent and Financial Support as we “Grow in Christ and help others grow with us.”

CHURCH FAMILY NEWS

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Willard (Bill) Leach on June 24, 2024. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. Please remember Bill’s family in your prayers.
