A few reminders for this week June 3, 2024 to June 9, 2024

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.’ (Luke 15:10) As Henri Nouwen noted, celebration belongs to God’s Kingdom. God not only offers forgiveness, reconciliation, and healing, but wants to lift up these gifts as a source of joy. In all three of the parables that Jesus tells to explain why he eats with sinners, God rejoices and invites others to rejoice with him. “Rejoice with me,” the shepherd says, “I have found my sheep that was lost.” “Rejoice with me,” the woman says, “I have found the coin I lost.” “Rejoice with me,” the father says, “this son of mine was lost and is found.” All these voices are the voices of God.  God does not want to keep his joy to himself.  He wants everyone to share in it.

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.

Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.

Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are 1 Samuel 8:4-20, 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1 and Mark 3:20-35. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

ADVANCE CARE PLANNING SEMINAR

Tuesday, June 11th at 1:00pm

The UCW is hosting Tricia Stanton from Evergreen Hospice, who will talk to us about Advance Care Planning, on Tuesday June 11 at 1:00 pm.

Most of you have selected an individual to act as your Power of Attorney of Health Care and for Finances. Advance Care Plans are the instructions that you give that person, and are the only way your wishes will be carried out.

It is an important and certainly unpleasant topic to discuss, however, a relief for all concerned when it is done.

Please join us and invite your friends and family, this is a topic for everyone not just the elderly. This event is for the whole congregation, not just the UCW.

SUMMER DAY CAMP AND

YOUTH VOLUNTEERING

Join us for an unforgettable summer experience! Central United Church will be hosting a 1-week Summer Day Camp ‘The Blessed Way 2024’ from July 8th to July 12th for children currently in SK to Grade 5 (or Grade 1-6 in September 2024). For more details and online registration, please click here. Due to limited enrollment, we encourage you to register now.

Junior and senior high school students are welcome to volunteer. If any youths are interested, please apply here.

SPONSORING KIDS TO CAMP

Every child deserves to have a fun and unforgettable summer camp experience, but not every family has the financial means to send all their children to camp. Without sacrificing the quality of our summer camp by reducing our fees, we are seeking generous donors to sponsor families requesting financial assistance. If you are interested in helping, a suggested offering will be $200 per unit. Please designate it as “Sponsor Kids to Camp” on the donation envelope or via e-transfer. Together we can make a difference in the community and be the beacon of hope.

PASTORAL CARE

Should you become aware of any illness, bereavement, hospitalization, etc., among people of our church, please notify the church office as soon as possible.

If you would like a pastoral visit, please contact Rev. Clubine at the church office 905.474.0183 or mobile office 416.358.4924 or by email jclubine@centralunitedchurch.com.
