A few reminders for this week May 15 to May 21, 2023

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

In the church calendar today, the fortieth day of Easter, is Ascension Day. Luke, the author of the book of Acts, tells us that for forty days following the resurrection Jesus appeared to his disciples speaking about the kingdom of God. On this day, speaking about the kingdom, Jesus commissioned his followers that they would be his witnesses to the ends of the earth and then was lifted up and a cloud took Jesus out of their site. Luke also tells us that following Jesus’ ascension the disciples returned to Jerusalem with great joy. (Luke 24:52) The disciples did not experience Jesus’ withdrawal to heaven as abandonment. Their joy indicates that he was present with them in a new way; the same presence believers today experience by faith. Rejoice in his presence with you this day!

SUNDAY WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.

Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.

Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Acts 1:1-11; Ephesians 1:15-23 and Luke 24:44-53. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

LEMONADE ON THE LAWN

Summer is coming and we would like to again have Lemonade on the Lawn for the Sundays late May through to the end of August.

However, the only way this can happen is if you, our congregation supports this by signing up for the weeks you are able to assist with set up, pouring and clean up each week. This is a very easy task as all supplies will be available at the church. Sign up sheets are located on the bulletin board outside the Friendship room in the Narthex. Thank you for supporting this outdoor fellowship following worship services.

Please check your calendars and commit to a week or two that will work for you! If you have any questions you may contact Kathy Hoy by email at kathyhoy5@gmail.com. Your service to the church will be appreciated by all!
