FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
Our guest minister this Sunday will be Pastor Sean Howard. Sean grew up in Toronto at Knox Presbyterian Church, Spadina. He was greatly influenced by the camp and youth ministries of his church and the camp and campus ministries of InterVarsity. After initially training as a teacher, Sean served as a pastor in the PCC for 22 years before moving recently to join InterVarsity Canada as the campus director for Southern Ontario. He is passionate about walking alongside younger leaders and helping them grow in their faith and leadership. He has been married to Rhoda for 25 years, and they have three young adult children. We look forward to what Pastor Howard has to share as he brings us the message this Sunday.
SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.
Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.
Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.
This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Exodus 3:1-12 and Luke 5:1-11. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.
AN UPDATE FROM THE FINANCE COMMITTEE
Through April 30th, we are reporting a $7000 YTD shortfall versus our Budget. The good news is that Expenses are under Budget by $12,000; however, Offerings are down $16,000 versus Budget.
Compared to 2023 April YTD, Offerings are down $13,000. It appears that fewer people are donating and at a lower level than last year. We are hoping that this is a timing issue. Regular donations through the year help our cashflow, particularly as we get into the traditionally lower donation months of the summer, while expenses continue. So, it would be great to see what we can do before the end of June to recoup the offering shortfall.
Our approved 2024 Budget included a 6% increase in donations to achieve a balanced operating budget. The Finance Committee encourages you to review your donations YTD. Donations can be made via automatic monthly withdrawals (PAR); Interac e-transfers; Canada Helps, or Cash/Cheque. Details are on our website and on the Donation Cards in the Pews. Contact Sally Sandiford (sally_sandiford@hotmail.com) to sign up for PAR or for information on your YTD givings.
We thank you for your time, talent and financial resources that allow us to fund and execute on our Mission to ”Grow in Christ and help others grow with us.”
