A few reminders for this week May 22 to May 28, 2023

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

On Sunday we celebrate Pentecost. I invite you to note that Pentecost occurred in a crowded public place. Maximum exposure. (Acts 2:6) Comparatively speaking, Jesus’ resurrection occurred in relative obscurity. No one saw the event of Jesus raised from the dead. The ascension also occurs in relative obscurity with only a few observers. What is public and for the world, what it to be seen in the world of Jesus’ work, is the church bearing witness to Jesus Christ. On this Pentecost day some of the crowd asked, ‘what does this mean?’ Luke gives us the meaning in Peter’s sermon when Peter cites the prophet Joel for an answer. The witness of the church to Jesus Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit is so that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

SUNDAY WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.

Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.

Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Acts 2:1-21; 1 Corinthians 12:3-13 and John 20:19-23. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

LEMONADE ON THE LAWN

Summer is coming and we’d like to again have Lemonade on the Lawn starting this Sunday, May 28th through to the end of August. To date no one has signed up for this Sunday so if you can assist, please contact Sharlene in the church office at admin@centralunitedchurch.com and let her know.

The only way this can happen is if you, our congregation supports this by signing up for the weeks you are able to assist with set up, pouring and clean up each week. This is a very easy task as all supplies will be available at the church. Sign up sheets are located on the bulletin board outside the Friendship room in the Narthex. Thank you for supporting this outdoor fellowship following worship services.

Please check your calendars and commit to a week or two that will work for you! If you have any questions you may contact Kathy Hoy by email at kathyhoy5@gmail.com. Your service to the church will be appreciated by all!
