A few reminders for this week May 27, 2024 to June 2, 2024

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord.” (2 Corinthians 4:5) I like the tagline on TED’s website ‘ideas worth spreading.’ Are we in the church convinced that the good news of Jesus is an idea worth spreading? Of course, one might first note that the good news of Jesus is more than an idea—it is to be introduced to a person. I invite you to think about the sheer volume of sermons preached this year in the churches around the world. Is it not amazing to think that so much can be said about this person Jesus and, for the faithful, the topic never seems to be exhausted. The Psalmist is correct; Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable.

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.

Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.

Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are 1 Samuel 3:1-20, 2 Corinthians 4:5-12 and Mark 2:23-3:6. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

UNIONVILLE FESTIVAL

June 1 – 2, 2024

The Unionville Festival will be held this weekend, June 1-2 with an expected turnout of over 30,000 visitors. On Saturday, June 1, from 10 am to 3 pm, our church will be offering drinks and hosting children’s activities on the church’s front lawn. The aim is to promote our summer camp and Sunday service. Additionally, should we have enough volunteers, we may open our sanctuary to share the history and stories of our church in Unionville. Please sign up on the bulletin board or contact Christina Ng for more information.

ROAD CLOSURES THIS SUNDAY

For this Sunday’s service, due to the Unionville Festival there will be a number of road closures. Main Street from Carlton Road South to the bypass and west on Fred Varley Drive to Fonthill Blvd. will be closed, so you will not be able to get to the church coming from North of Highway #7. You can only gain access from the south end.

SUMMER DAY CAMP AND

YOUTH VOLUNTEERING

Join us for an unforgettable summer experience! Central United Church will be hosting a 1-week Summer Day Camp ‘The Blessed Way 2024’ from July 8th to July 12th for children currently in SK to Grade 5 (or Grade 1-6 in September 2024). For more details and online registration, please click here. Due to limited enrollment, we encourage you to register now.

Junior and senior high school students are welcome to volunteer. If any youths are interested, please apply here.

SPONSORING KIDS TO CAMP

Every child deserves to have a fun and unforgettable summer camp experience, but not every family has the financial means to send all their children to camp. Without sacrificing the quality of our summer camp by reducing our fees, we are seeking generous donors to sponsor families requesting financial assistance. If you are interested in helping, a suggested offering will be $200 per unit. Please designate it as “Sponsor Kids to Camp” on the donation envelope or via e-transfer. Together we can make a difference in the community and be the beacon of hope.

PASTORAL CARE

Should you become aware of any illness, bereavement, hospitalization, etc., among people of our church, please notify the church office as soon as possible.

If you would like a pastoral visit, please contact Rev. Clubine at the church office 905.474.0183 or mobile office 416.358.4924 or by email jclubine@centralunitedchurch.com.
