A few reminders for this week May 29 to June 4, 2023

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

According to the creation story in Genesis, the Spirit of God swept over a formless void. (Genesis 1:1-2) The word translated ‘swept’ also means to ‘hover’ or ‘brood.’ In God’s creative activity this formless void or chaos gets ordered; morning and evening, seas and dry land in their place, vegetation of every kind, seasons and a great light for the day and lesser lights for the night, and finally a beautiful garden for human habitation. When the Spirit of God sweeps into our lives or hovers over us the purpose is to bring order. Recall what the Apostle teaches are the fruit of the Spirit in our lives; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) These are the things that bring order to our lives, goodness and blessing. This is how you recognize the work of God’s Spirit.

SUNDAY WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.

Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.

Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Genesis 1:1-5; 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 and Matthew 28:16-20. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

OPEN HOUSE / HYMN SING

Sunday June 4th 11:30 – 1:30 PM

In conjunction with the Unionville Festival, Central United will be holding an open house/hymn sing following worship service this Sunday June 4th beginning at 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM. If you are interested in participating, please advise the music director Sarah Wyse and if you have a favourite hymn request you can submit that to Sarah as well at sarahbwyse@gmail.com and she’ll do her best to include it.

ROAD CLOSURES THIS SUNDAY

For this Sunday’s service, due to the Unionville Festival there will be a number of road closures. Main Street from Carlton Road South to the bypass and west on Fred Varley Drive to Fonthill Blvd. will be closed, so you will not be able to get to the church coming from North of Highway #7. You can only gain access from the south end.

LEMONADE ON THE LAWN

With summer just around the corner we have begun Lemonade on the Lawn running through to the end of August. If you can assist please contact Sharlene in the church office at admin@centralunitedchurch.com and let her know which Sunday’s you’d be available to help. Or if you prefer, sign up sheets are also located on the bulletin board outside the Friendship room in the Narthex and you can sign up there.

The only way this can happen is if you, our congregation supports this by signing up for the weeks you are able to assist with set up, pouring and clean up each week. This is a very easy task as all supplies will be available at the church. Thank you for supporting this outdoor fellowship following worship services.

Please check your calendars and commit to a week or two that will work for you! If you have any questions you may contact Kathy Hoy by email at kathyhoy5@gmail.com. Your service to the church will be appreciated by all!
