A few reminders for this week Nov. 16 – Nov. 22, 2020

Early this fall a group of pastors concerned about what they see as growing threats to civil liberties as it pertains to churches in Canada, published a Declaration aimed at bringing “Canadian churches together around our common commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, freedom for the Gospel, and constitutional liberty for the churches.”  On the church calendar this coming Sunday is Reign of Christ Sunday when we celebrate that Jesus was raised to a place ‘far above all rule and authority and power and dominion.’ The idea that Jesus reigns may not resonate in a culture that promotes the individual as autonomous. Keep in mind that Jesus is not like the authoritarians of this world; he pours himself out without remainder at the cross for our sakes. The gospel asserts that God’s power is most characteristically on display at the cross where Father and Son together secure the redemption of the world. It is the love of God that calls from us our deepest loyalties.
December 6th at 7:00 pm
Our 17th Annual Comfort Service will be held here at the church on Sunday evening, December 6th at 7:00 pm and you, your immediate and extended family and friends would be most welcome. However, due to current COVID-19 restrictions, seating capacity is limited and subject to social distancing and health guidelines. Given these parameters, those who wish to attend the service will need to register in advance. You can register either by calling the church office (905-474-0183), online through the church website (www.centralunitedchurch.com) or by clicking here. This service will not be livestreamed.
This service offers an opportunity to reflect and meditate while at the same time allowing us to remember and honour those dear to our heart. Know that Christ knows our pain and walks with us in all our moments of grief. We gather together to share in the comfort and strength of the presence of Christ and experience his word of peace to our hearts.

We would like to say a great big THANK YOU to all those who participated in this year’s Christmas Shoebox project. Many participants packed their own boxes, others did it online, while some supported the cause with a monetary contribution. In total we packed 60 boxes which will put a smile on the face of many children this Christmas. Another wonderful achievement. God Bless you all!!!
Since the Church Directory of Members and Friends was distributed late last year to facilitate us to stay in touch with each other, has any of your information changed – email address, phone number (cell/home/work), home address?   Perhaps you are new to our Church and want to be included?  Or declined to be included last year and now want to share your contact information with others? Is there a typo in your information in the Directory?   If you answered yes to any of these questions, please email admin@centralunitedchurch.com with your updated information. The list of updates, changes and additions will be forwarded to those who have received a Directory for changes to be made in their personal copy.  If you didn’t pick up a copy of the Directory and would like to obtain one, please contact Sharlene in the Church office.  Deadline for changes to be submitted is Friday, December 4th.
