A few reminders for this week Nov. 9 – Nov. 15, 2020

What will see you through? When we think about getting to the other side of dealing with this pandemic, for example, what keeps you going? For the believer, the question isn’t what gets you through but who gets you through. Faith, biblically speaking, is relationship with God.  In the Apostle Paul’s first Corinthian letter he writes, “And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.” Underline the word ‘abide;’ the word means continue, endure, remain. These—faith, hope, and love—endure or abide because Jesus Christ is eternal; to be engaged in these is life in that kingdom of which there is no end. The seasons of our world in which we live ever ebb and flow; to cling to Jesus Christ is to hold on to the eternal.
Tuesday, November 17th at 8:00 am
This years 23rd Annual Markham Prayer Breakfast will be meeting via their You-Tube Channel on Tuesday, November 17th at 8:00 am with a special ‘prayer-focussed’ event recognising and praying for our political leaders in local government as well as provincial and federal leaders. They will also be praying for leaders in the business world as they continue to navigate these difficult times. To join you can access the link here.
December 6th at 7:00 pm
Our 17th Annual Comfort Service will be held here at the church on Sunday evening, December 6th at 7:00 pm and you, your immediate and extended family and friends would be most welcome. However, due to current COVID-19 restrictions, seating capacity is limited and subject to social distancing and health guidelines. Given these parameters, those who wish to attend the service will need to register in advance. You can register either by calling the church office (905-474-0183), online through the church website (www.centralunitedchurch.com) or by clicking here. This service will not be livestreamed.
This service offers an opportunity to reflect and meditate while at the same time allowing us to remember and honour those dear to our heart. Know that Christ knows our pain and walks with us in all our moments of grief. We gather together to share in the comfort and strength of the presence of Christ and experience his word of peace to our hearts.
Since the Church Directory of Members and Friends was distributed late last year to facilitate us to stay in touch with each other, has any of your information changed – email address, phone number (cell/home/work), home address?   Perhaps you are new to our Church and want to be included?  Or declined to be included last year and now want to share your contact information with others? Is there a typo in your information in the Directory?   If you answered yes to any of these questions, please email admin@centralunitedchurch.com with your updated information. The list of updates, changes and additions will be forwarded to those who have received a Directory for changes to be made in their personal copy.  If you didn’t pick up a copy of the Directory and would like to obtain one, please contact Sharlene in the Church office.  Deadline for changes to be submitted is Friday, December 4th.
Early November is the time of year when we review and refresh the members of the CUC Church Council for the next year. This also serves as a good opportunity for us each to evaluate our engagement in the work of the church. The work of the church is work in service of each other and is an act of worship to and in service of the Lord. Many of our congregants, many of you, give of yourselves in this work in various ways. And in that work you are a blessing and you are blessed through it.
I would ask that you each prayerfully evaluate and consider your role supporting the work of the church over the coming two weeks. As you give this your consideration, as you feel the ability and initiative to serve in the coming year please reach out to me with your offer of service.
There are many opportunities to serve, and here is a list of the common ones for your consideration.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Young Yong, Chang, beloved father of Peter Chang. Young Yong passed away on Wednesday, November 11th. Peter’s father served the Presbyterian Church in Seoul Korea as a Senior Pastor; he will be missed by the many whose lives he touched.
We are grateful that our sorrows are borne in the hope of our Saviour’s love. Please remember Peter and Ellena and the rest of their family in your prayers.
Should you become aware of any illness, bereavement, hospitalization, etc., among people of our church, please notify the church office as soon as possible.
