A few reminders for this week Oct. 19 – Oct. 25, 2020

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
This coming Sunday we mark the 180th Anniversary of Central United Church. We trace the beginning of Central to a Methodist society that began meeting in Unionville in 1840. It was part of a circuit of such societies that shared the services of a travelling minister (usually on horseback).  Not many of us would want to trade places with the people of 1840. I much prefer travelling in my car to church on winter Sunday mornings to arriving on horseback. And even with all the challenges of life they faced—compared to us—Christians then were motivated to gather together to worship and grow in their faith.  We live in an era where religious observance is regarded as optional; it is telling that during the pandemic lockdown meeting together for religious observance was treated as non-essential. There is a tendency among us to regard ourselves as having advanced beyond certain things. The gospel calls believers to worship together because we never advance beyond our need for Jesus Christ.

The church office is open all day on Mondays and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.
You can participate by packaging a shoebox yourself or if you’d prefer Samaritan’s Purse to pack a box for you, you can do so with a $40.00 donation, just visit their website here. Please ensure your shoeboxes are returned to the church no later than Nov. 8th.
Let’s support this great initiative again this year to bring joy to a needy child. What a wonderful way to share Jesus’ love.
