FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
In the church calendar, November 1st is marked as All Saints’ Day, also known as All Hallows’ Day, Hallowmas, or the Feast of All Saints, a Christian festival celebrated in honour of all the saints, known and unknown. October 31st is named Halloween because it is the eve of All Hallows’ Day; largely unknown among us given what our culture has made of Halloween. The church calendar in its marking of days and seasons is part of the church’s confession that we live by a narrative of life that is revealed in God’s incursion into the world in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. We believe that we inhabit a world in which the redemptive purposes of God are unfolding. The story we live by, while it includes the history of nations and peoples, is a story of how God is calling a people to himself. The church’s calendar is part of our witness to Jesus Christ. On All Saints’ Day Christians delight in the truth that all the faithful who have gone before us are in that place where faith is now sight.

SAMARITAN’S PURSE – Christmas Shoebox
Just one week remains in our Samaritan’s Purse initiative so if you’d like to participate, shoeboxes, brochures and shopping lists are still available at the church and can be picked up Sunday after church service or during the week. The church office is open all day on Mondays and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.
You can participate by packaging a shoebox yourself or if you’d prefer Samaritan’s Purse to pack a box for you, you can do so with a $40.00 donation, just visit their website here. Please ensure your shoeboxes are returned to the church no later than Sunday, Nov. 8th.
Let’s support this great initiative again this year to bring joy to a needy child. What a wonderful way to share Jesus’ love.
