A few reminders for this week Sept. 2, 2024 to Sept. 8, 2024

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you (Philippians 1:3-4) The Apostle Paul’s warm greeting expresses what I want to say to you, the congregation of Central United, as I prepare for the conclusion of my pastoral ministry among you. I am truly grateful for the joy of serving among you and the love we share together. It is a wonderful thing to have something so joyful that it makes saying goodbye so hard. I take great solace that as believers in Christ, his promise of eternal life means that all our goodbyes are never final but only ‘goodbye for now.’ I also find solace in the confidence I share with the Apostle in Christ; “I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.

Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.

Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.

This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Isaiah 55:1-2, 6-11, Philippians 1:3-11 and John 14:1-7. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

FINANCE COMMITTEE UPDATE

Through July YTD, the Church is showing an actual total deficit of $42,500 versus a budgeted deficit of $60,800. The deficit was reduced through the use of $15,000 in dividends/interest received from the Investment Portfolio.

Expenses continue to be managed well – approximately $19,000 under budget. Our fiscal challenge continues to be a shortfall in Offerings. Total YTD Offerings are $12,000 less than budgeted. We are hopeful as people “get back to school, back to work, and back to Church”, that we will see a positive improvement in this area.

Thank you for your continuing contributions in time, talent and financial givings to Central United Church.

Please contact either Lindsay Duffield or Scott Wetmore with any questions.

FALL BIBLE STUDY

Join us for an enriching 7-week small group study of The Beatitudes, taking place from October 14 to November 30! This series will delve into the profound teachings of Jesus, exploring who the blessed people are and what the blessed life truly looks like in God’s Kingdom. Each session, led by small group leaders, includes video content, personal reflection, discussion and sharing. With multiple locations and times available throughout the week, there’s a group that fits your schedule. Whether you’re new to the Beatitudes or seeking a deeper understanding, this study offers a unique opportunity to grow in faith and community. Don’t miss out on this chance to explore the heart of the Gospel and discover the blessings that await. Sign up in the Narthex on Sunday, or click here

DWELL

Whether you’re new to the Christian faith or simply curious, you are invited to join a small study group called DWELL. Led by trained Bible teachers, the group is open to anyone who wants to understand the language, culture, and major themes of the Bible.

The DWELL group meets every Sunday morning at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary. After the opening announcements, prayers, songs, and the children’s story, the group quietly leaves the sanctuary and meets in the Boardroom to spend half an hour reading and learning the Word of God. The vision of the group is to support and journey with all who are seeking to know the heart of God, being deeply rooted in the Word of God. All participants will receive a Bible to begin their journey.
