175th Anniversary

175Banner

2015 marks the 175th anniversary of Central United Church, and we have a lot of activities planned to celebrate.

175th Anniversary Book
Between March and December, we will be collecting stories and photos from the congregation in order to put together a book commemorating our special anniversary.

175th Cook Book
In addition to the Anniversary Book, we will also be putting together a special cook book – filled with recipes from the congregation.

If you should have stories, photos or recipes that you would like to share, please send them to Sally (sally@centralunitedchurch.com).

Below is a list of the activities currently planned; we encourage you to check back often for updates!

September 19, 2015

  • take home a booklet with descriptions of all the stained glass windows in the church
  • take a self-guided tour of the sanctuary and view a continuous slide show about the history of our church
  • enjoy lemonade and cookies ‘on the lawn’
  • help children ring the church bell
  • encourage children to blow bubbles and create chalk drawings on the front sidewalk

September 20, 2015
You’re invited to a special BBQ that draws inspiration from those held in years gone by. It starts at 11:00 a.m. right after the 10:00 a.m. church service. Come enjoy roast pork (from Ledbetter Meats), salad, corn on the cob, corn bread, lemonade, ice cream and watermelon. Participate in old-fashioned games such as egg toss, three-legged race, egg/potato on a spoon race, shoe kick and guessing the number of jelly beans in the jar. Choose from a selection of old-fashioned hats, vests, shawls, dresses and coats and have your photo taken at the photo booth. Children can blow bubbles and create chalk drawings on the sidewalk. Donations are appreciated. (Our cost is about $12 per person.)
