FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
Jeremiah is my favourite biblical prophet, and the 1998 movie about him is one of my favourite biblical movies. You can watch the whole thing on YouTube now. It starred Patrick Dempsey, who some of you might know better as Dr. McDreamy if you watched Grey’s Anatomy, or as a teen heartthrob if you, like me, were a teenager in the 80s.
Around 600 years Before Christ, God chose Jeremiah to be a prophet and gave him the job of bringing a much needed call to repentance to the nation of Israel. At the time Jeremiah was a very young and inexperienced boy – likely only 12 or 13 years old. He was not the kind of person the Israelites expected to speak words of wisdom on behalf of God, and nobody knew that better than Jeremiah himself.
But God often calls us to step out of our comfort zone so that we are totally dependent on Him for success. Do you think God might be calling you to do something for Him that would make you totally dependent on God? Are you willing to do it?
