Week of Mar. 24 – Mar. 30, 2025

FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK

Ephesians 4:11 says, “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers…” This verse has given rise to the acronym APEST to refer to the variety of spiritual gifts that people are given when they are filled with the Holy Spirit. Spiritual gifts are different from natural talents in that the Spirit gives us the ability to make a difference for the Kingdom of God far beyond what we could ever do on our own. I’ve done a few different Spiritual Gifting tests, and I consistently come out strongest in Teaching and Shepherding, and not so strong in Apostleship, Prophecy and Evangelism. It has helped me to know the areas where I should direct my efforts, and where I should defer to the gifts of others.

This week’s Bullseye topic will be “Serving,” and while serving is something that all Christians are called to do, it makes a huge difference if you serve out of your spiritual giftedness: it’s better for the community and it’s better for you, when you serve in the ways God has gifted you, rather than out of a sense of duty or obligation.

If you’re interested in knowing what your spiritual gifting is, you can try this free online test: https://fivefoldministry.com/

Or you can try this one for $10USD: https://5qcentral.com/product/apest-vocational-assessment/#tab-reviews (It is very good and thorough, and gives you a ton of helpful information. Worth the money, in my opinion.)

Once you have done the test, consider how this might help you discern ways that you can serve in the church or the community! I’d love to hear your results if you’d like to share them with me.
