FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
“Why can’t I hear God’s voice??”
It’s a question that has been asked by many, many people who have taken the Hearing God course (including me, at first). The main reason is, most of us just have been taught to listen. Even after we have been taught, though, there are other things that can prevent us from hearing God’s voice, and we’ll cover some of those this week.
If you’re like me and you don’t remember anything unless you write it down, this may be the week when you want to bring a pen and journal!
SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.
Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.
Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.
This Sunday’s Scripture readings are John 17:1-8 and Psalm 68:1-10, 32-35. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

OCTOBER FOOD DRIVE
“Help Families in Need”
The Markham Food Bank serves over 1,000 individuals each month, providing much-needed food supplies to support families’ nutritional needs. This October, we are collecting non-perishable food donations at the church, and every contribution makes a difference. Financial gifts are also welcome—please designate them as “Markham Food Bank.” Thank you for your generous support!
SAMARITAN’S PURSE – Christmas Shoebox
This year we are once again participating in the Samaritan’s Purse initiative as one of our Christmas Outreach events. You can participate by packaging a shoebox yourself or if you’d prefer Samaritan’s Purse to pack a box for you, you can do so with a $44.00 donation, just visit their website here. They also ask for a $12.00 donation per box which is applied towards collection, processing and international shipping.
Shoeboxes, brochures and shopping lists are now available for pick up Sundays after church service or during the week. The church office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. The initiative will run for six weeks ending Sunday, November 16th.
Let’s support this great initiative again this year to bring joy to a needy child. What a wonderful way to share Jesus’ love.
CENTRAL’S 185TH ANNIVERSARY!
Join us next Sunday, November 2 at 10:00 A.M. as we celebrate 185 years of God’s faithfulness at Central. We are delighted to welcome Rev. Dr. Charles Price as our guest preacher, bringing a message titled “To Me To Live is Christ” from Philippians 1:21–27.
Following the service, we will gather for a time of refreshment and fellowship. This is a special milestone in our church family’s journey, and we would love for you to be part of it. Bring your family and friends as we give thanks together for all that God has done and continues to do through Central!
MARKHAM PRAYER BREAKFAST
Friday, Nov. 21st 7:00am
Angus Glen Golf Course
The Markham Prayer Breakfast is a time for the community of Markham to gather for Breakfast and pray for our community leaders. The keynote speaker will be Cyndi Wilkins. Cyndi was a successful business manager and new Mom when necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating disease) entered her life and altered it forever. She woke up 5 weeks later to find her hands and feet had been amputated in an effort to save her life and wondered “why did God allow this to happen to her?
Special music will be provided by vocalist Dawn Caswell, recently retired Music Teacher at MDHS who enjoys singing on the worship team at Springdale Baptist Church. A table has been purchased for our Church, tickets are $45 each. To secure a place at the table, please contact Ruth Duffield at regduffield@gmail.com.
HOW YOUR SUPPORT SUSTAINS
CENTRAL UNITED
💒 PAR (Pre-authorized Remittance)
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:21.
If you use automatic withdrawals to pay bills, taxes, or your mortgage, then you already understand the principle behind PAR. It’s a simple, secure way to support Central United Church — ensuring consistent monthly givings, even when you’re away.
PAR helps us plan responsibly and steward our resources well. It also saves on administrative costs and makes giving easier for you.
🙏 Already on PAR? When was the last time you reviewed your monthly amount?
To meet our 2025 budget and continue supporting our staff, facilities, programs and outreach, we’re in need of a 15% increase in local donations.
Jesus often spoke about how our relationship with money reflects our values and priorities. When we share what we have, we participate in God’s work — building a community of care, hope and faith.
If you’d like to begin giving through PAR or adjust your monthly amount, please contact Sally Sandiford at sally_sandiford@hotmail.com.
Thank you for your faithful generosity — it truly makes a difference.
