We continue to enjoy the wonder of Advent this coming Sunday, the Sunday of Peace.
This week we look at the wonder of the Church. This is where Christ is born again and again – the body of Christ – whenever we make the reign of God manifest on earth. We’ll see a bit of that as we collect our White Gifts to share with those in need, and as we hear about the refugee families that we’re invited to support over the next couple of weeks. Wherever Christians are serving others in love and peace, the wonder of Christ’s coming is among us.
SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.
Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.

WEEKLY PRAYER MEETING

YEAR END GIVING REMINDER
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
As 2025 draws to a close, we warmly invite you to review your givings to Central United Church. To be eligible for a 2025 tax receipt, donations must be received by December 31st, and securities gifts should be arranged before Christmas.
Your generosity is deeply appreciated. Together, we are striving to balance our 2025 Offerings Budget and this requires $76,000 in donations during November and December.
Every gift, large or small, helps us continue to nurture faith, strengthen community and extend Christ’s love to others.

OFFERING ENVELOPES
For those of you who use offering envelopes, your boxed set for 2026 is available for pick up in the narthex. If we have missed your name and you would like a set for your weekly offering, please speak to Sharlene or Sally Sandiford. Please ensure that at the end of 2025 you destroy your old envelopes and begin using the new set that has been assigned to you.
REFUGEE OUTREACH
This Christmas it gives us pleasure to buy Christmas gifts for a couple of refugee families who are struggling. Ahmed & Ghada have 3 children, a son Alabes (20), and two daughters Hawazin (18) and Hazar (16). Also a lady who has a high risk pregnancy. She is expecting a daughter in January. Please watch the church bulletin board for more specific information.

CHRISTMAS CAROL SING
AND HOT CHOCOLATE NIGHT
Saturday, December 6 at 7 PM
Due to the ongoing Main St. Restoration, there will be no parade down the street this year. However, Central is joyfully continuing our tradition of opening our doors and welcoming the community in for a Christmas Carol Sing & Hot Chocolate Night!
It will be a warm, fun, and heart-lifting evening — a wonderful way to begin the season together.
Although it’s short notice, we would love any help you can offer:
• inviting friends and neighbours
• greeting attendees
• making/serving hot chocolate
• handing out the song books
…and more!
WHITE GIFT SUNDAY
This Sunday, Dec. 7th we will celebrate White Gift Sunday during the morning worship service. Your donations of unwrapped nonperishable foods are appreciated. Cash gifts will also be received – special “White Gift” offering envelopes will be made available. Your gifts of food/money will also be used to assist the Markham Food Bank.
COMFORT SERVICE
Our Annual Comfort Service will be held this Sunday, Dec. 7th at 7:00 pm. This service is offered to those who have experienced loss of a loved one and is a good opportunity to reach out to our congregation and community at large. All are welcome to attend and please invite family and friends who may benefit from such a service.
MITTEN TREE
With the Christmas season soon upon us, the Mitten Tree is once again up in the Friendship Room. Should you wish to donate, please drop off hats, toques, scarves and gloves by Sunday, Dec. 15th so that we can deliver them to the Salvation Army before Christmas. They can be dropped off at the church on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm or if you’re attending in person worship on Sunday morning and prefer to drop them off then, that would be fine as well.
CHRISTMAS GIFT BAGS
Christmas Gift Bags (Markham Food Bank Fundraiser) are the perfect gift for a hostess, the person who has everything, a “thank you” to someone who helps you, a friend or for yourself. Each bag contains a tree ornament and a message that it symbolizes a donation has been made to the Markham Food Bank. Suggested donation is $25 minimum (cash or cheque made payable to Markham Food Bank), with 100% of the proceeds going to the Markham Food Bank and a tax receipt to follow. NEW YEAR’S DAY PRAYER SERVICE
What better way to start the New Year than by coming into the presence of God and offering 2026 to Him?
We’ll gather at 10am in the Sanctuary for a time of prayer for the coming year led by Rev. Lori and with worship music led by Sarah.
SUNDAY SCHOOL HELPERS
We need helpers in the Sunday School classroom. No teaching, singing, or crafting experience is required!!
We currently have 4 assistants rotating through the schedule, and we need to double this number in 2026. Please consider this way to serve. We would love to have you join our team!
