FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
Our guest minister this Sunday is Karen Heppner. Although Karen has a degree in music, that was only a door to discipleship and ministry. She spent many years as a volunteer in both youth and young adult ministry, inspiring them toward the immense love and grace God offered each one of them. She created environments where they could learn and grow in their faith, including small groups and mission trips.
This led to a full time ministry position at the Bridge – a Markham Community Church in 2007. It was during her 15 years here that her passion for discipleship and leadership development was most fully realized. Karen developed relational systems of community and growth. This included Groups – both lifegroups & seasonal support groups, Host Ministries, the Connection pathway, volunteer engagement, and leadership development.
Karen consistently pursues her calling of both equipping and walking with people as they know and grow into their God-given potential. For the past 4 years, this has included an initiative to empower and give women a true and authentic voice using Emotionally Healthy material by Pete and Geri Scazzero. In addition, she consults and equips churches and pastors in all things discipleship.
She is a continual learner and being an Enneagram 2w3, she looks for ways to help people flourish and move into the “more” that God has for them.
Karen has been married to Ben for 46 years, and they have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.
Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.
Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.
This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Matthew 14:13-20 and the responsive liturgy is “Every Moment Holy”. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.

Sunday, May 10th
Do you have a special woman in your life that you would like to remember this Mother’s Day? Celebrating their strength, sacrifices, selflessness and love.
LEMONADE ON THE LAWN
Beginning Sunday, May 17th
Summer is coming and Lemonade on the Lawn will resume for the Sundays late May through to the beginning of September this year.
However, the only way this can happen is if you, our congregation, supports this by signing up for the weeks you are able to assist with set up, pouring and clean up each week. This is a very easy task as all supplies will be available at the church. Sign up sheets are located in the Narthex. Please consider this, so that we can all enjoy the physical reconnection with old and new friends in our church.
Please check your calendars and commit to a week or two that will work for you! If you have any questions you may contact Kathy Hoy by email at kathyhoy5@gmail.com. Your service to the church will be appreciated by all!

UNIONVILLE FESTIVAL
Saturday, June 6th from 10:00am – 3:00pm
One of our key initiatives this year is to be an outward-facing, welcoming, and engaging church. With the return of the Unionville Parade on Main St., are we ready to make a meaningful presence in the community by sharing what we do and why we (CUC) exist?
Children’s activities will be held on the lawn as usual, but we can certainly do more to engage adults as well. If you have any creative ideas, please share them with Sharon, Pam, or Christina, and prayerfully consider joining us in the planning for the event.
