FROM THE MINISTER’S DESK
Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ (John 20:19) The first words of the risen Jesus to his followers were, “Peace be with you.” What is this peace with which Jesus blesses his followers? Jesus would have uttered the Hebrew word ‘shalom!’ In Hebrew “shalom” also means “salvation,” and salvation, everywhere in scripture, is the creation restored and relationships in it healed. Shalom is the reality of restoration at God’s hand. Christ’s people have come to live in it. Now that we live in it, we are to live from it. It is the peace that is envisioned in the priestly blessing God gave to Israel: ‘The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.’
SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP 10:00 A.M.
Central United Church welcomes you to join our Worship Service Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. In worship we proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; God’s word is read and preached, sacraments celebrated, faith sung and prayers offered.
Sunday services are also livestreamed (and recorded) through the Church website or you can join here. A copy of the bulletin for this Sunday’s Service is attached here.
This Sunday’s Scripture readings are Acts 4:32-35, 1 John 1:1-2:2 and John 20:19-31. You can also find a daily scripture message at the top of our website.
